How the hot seat works

Pick someone for the hot seat. For the next two minutes, or five questions, the group asks and they answer. Then the seat moves to the left. The player in the seat can pass on any question, no reason given, and the group moves straight on to the next one. Nobody takes the seat twice before everyone has had it once.

Ask, do not interrogate. One follow-up per question is plenty. The seat is meant to feel like the best kind of attention, not a cross-examination.

How do you play the hot seat game?

One player sits in the hot seat and the rest of the group asks them questions for a set time or a set number of questions. They answer honestly or pass. Then the seat moves on, until everyone has had a turn.

How many questions should each person get?

Five questions, or two minutes, works for most groups. Long enough to get past the easy answers, short enough that nobody is waiting long for their turn.

Can you pass in the hot seat?

Yes, on any question, without explaining. A pass costs nothing, or a small forfeit if the group agreed one before starting.

What is the difference between Hot Seat and Truth or Dare?

In Truth or Dare one player chooses between a question and a dare each turn. In Hot Seat the whole group focuses on one player for several questions in a row, so it goes deeper on one person before moving on.
